Moth Trapping in North Barrow
A number of people in the UK are involved in observing and recording moths and this includes the village of North Barrow. Most moths are nocturnal, so to observe and record them a moth trap has to be used. The moth trap consists of a special light to attract the moths and the moths are harmlessly caught in the trap below. The trap is set up at dusk and remains on until dawn. Moths are then recorded, photographed if necessary and released. All data recorded is input into relevant databases including the National database.
Our favourite moths are the Hawkmoths which are the largest moths found in Britain. The photographs included below are all moths observed and recorded in North Barrow. If you are interested and would like to know more please contact Juliet & Nigel Cryer at Carn House, North Barrow.
